Checkpoint Update Part 1
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Feb 04, 2020 at 04:55:40 PM

Hey Everybody!

I've been working on a level checkpoint system for Lazr. In Casual Mode, levels have checkpoints that activate when the hero touches them, saving the player's progress in that specific level. This makes the difficult levels of Lazr a bit more forgiving, for players playing on Casual. Hardcore mode has no checkpoints, however. Here's some playtesting of the checkpoint objects:

Tomorrow, I'll post an updated version of Lazr's Demo to Itch.io, along with Indie Expo. I'm preparing a Steam build as well, so I can release the Demo to a wider audience and get feedback. Thanks for backing Lazr and coming on this journey with me!

Voth Art Complete!
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Feb 03, 2020 at 02:10:51 PM

Hey Everyone!

I finished up Voth's character sheet today, and planned out how to add "Casual" and "Hardcore" modes to the demo, which will happen this week. I'll talk about them more when that update is posted.

There's a few interviews and articles coming out this week that I will include in future updates as well. Players have pointed out a bug with the dialog text that I'll be fixing soon too. Stay Tuned!

Thanks,

Garrick

Voth Art

Hey everyone!

Here's a work in progress character sheet for Voth (he's the main bad guy in the Lazr world). It's not finished, but I think it's far enough along to share.

(still in development)

A bit of backstory on Voth: he's the oldest living human in Alpha City One, in the year 2666. He was born in 1985, became cybernetically enhanced in 2027, then transferred into his current stasis like environment in 2203. Due to cell deterioration, Voth has removed all non-vital organs in an attempt to increase the stability and efficiency of his mind. This experimental procedure allowed Voth to couple his nervous system to input/output systems directly. Voth chooses to contract a "muscle", and a signal is sent from his brain to his spine, to that group of nerves, which are each individually connected to physical hardware. That physical hardware can then control a variety of objects, from vehicles to mechs to nanomachines. Due to his weakened physical state, Voth keeps himself well protected, high above the Earth in his orbital war fortress. The low gravity helps to keep his fragile bones from falling apart, forcing him to transfer completely into a digital lifeform, losing his ability to grow and progress as a human mind does naturally. Voth has final say over all affairs and business in Alpha City One. As sole proprietor of the massive multi-trillion dollar Voth Industries, the only weapons manufacturer in Alpha City One, what Voth says is law. Voth is considered to be The Architect, The Father, and The Judge of Alpha City One, always watching and dealing out justice as he sees fit. Fun bonus Voth fact: he's the only machine to maintain 100% uptime, even after several EMP attacks in Alpha City One.

There's much more backstory to Voth...

Art Progress!

Hey everyone!

Today I'm working on character sheet art for Voth. Here's an in progress gif.

Yesterday I did an interview with Plastic Hearts Podcast, but due to technical issues some of the audio wasn't recorded. We'll be doing another one and getting that interview up for everyone to listen to.

In other Lazr related news, there's been a few articles posted:

The Portuguese Update
about 5 years ago – Thu, Jan 30, 2020 at 05:38:39 PM

Hey Backers!

I just updated the demo (https://mrgrak.itch.io/lazr) with Brazilian Portuguese localization, bringing the supported languages to English, French, Chinese, Japanese, and Brazilian Portuguese. I'll be adding Russian soon as well, then shifting focus to producing more character art - for example The Big Bad Guy Himself, VOTH, is next up on the art todo list.

Thanks for supporting Lazr!
